Not so much a reREC list as a collection of RECords that simply spoke to me that may very well mean nothing to anybody else. Will be continously added to / changed.

imagine a literary form of this tiny story please. and post it here.

--------------------------------------
tech notes:
year: 2010
location: miedzyzdroje, poland

this picture has quite an evolution behind it. it started with a single seagull feather stuck in the sand which i documented to excess. then i came upon the big piece of alga and shot it for about 10 min with different patterns in the sand. forming new backgrounds and settings for it. i shot it upright, laying flat, turned top to bottom, bottom to top, left, right, left. while digging the background i found the smaller pieces of alga and most importantly this tiny piece of driftwood. at first i was completely mesmerized with only the little stick. it took me another 10 min of creeping about those 5inches of sand and a few stupified glances of my heavy set neighbors. i was alone there mind you.

after exhausting all i could think of and all my TTC lectures on philosophy of mind sparked in mine. i tilted my head like a dog would watching someone brushing their teeth. i do that from time to time to remind me of a different perspective. and BAM! there it was! i shifted down even more now in a full on sniping pose my crosshairs seemingly at one of the stranded whales surrounding me. while prone and moving only in millimeter increments i composed this scene in camera. by that i mean i was holding the camera to my eye with one hand while setting up the "pieces" with the other. all the while i had to use the now silly seeming feather to brush the sand and blow it flat.

in retrospect i am a bit disappointed i did not use my tripod which was next to me already set up from the shot i took of the see before. i was too excited about those little dry brown pieces of crap to think about tech.

i was there for more than an hour but came up with a range of different shots that were as dramatic as they were different. links to the other shots will follow as i post them.

I lost myself into the original track by skylerchampion. It spoke to me, so I had to do a remix of it, with acoustic guitar and piano. More overtly rhythmic than the subtle rhythm of the original.

I'm not def. but pretty sure that this footage was a record Dan had released on v.3. I had it saved to my computer, and thought I should rerelease it since its so great here on v.4. A great record to remember the gifted and awesome Dan!

Me_and_dad

Like father like daughter. Before my Dad became a professional singer (then later police officer,) he was a boxer. He was all of 17 in his photo, 1950 of so. Since I was old enough to walk, he taught me how to box.

But it wasn't until later in life that I picked up my own martial art, which was Kung Fu. My Dad was so proud that I'd finally found a martial art for me (and I think a little relieved that his "little girl" would officially learn self defense.) It's because of my Dad that I do martial arts. And I know the resemblance doesn't end there. :) Everything we loved and cherished in our loved ones lives on in the things they taught us; specifically those values that made us say, "That has to become a part of me."

Urasoe_stairs

I just came across this picture I took of some winding stairs at the Urasoe Art Museum on Okinawa, Japan back in January 2007.  It reminds me of all the RECords here having to do with spirals and repetition and Phi.  It's also an interesting illusion since you can't tell at first if what you're looking at is the ceiling or the floor.

I thought it might make a good REsource for someone.

I'm not a musician, can barely play "little boxes" & "keep on the sunny side" on my guitar... Blah blah blah blue...red... But music is important for me as eating, sleeping, breathing, I mean there is not a day without music in my life, whether they are happy days or sad ones. So this picture is what illustrates best all the blah blah I've written above...

Re-RECommendations albums is a good way to dig up RECords we like. An other way is to remix them. I wanted to do something with TaraMarie's "Life is But a Dream Dance" for a long time. I thought it would go perfectly with Metaphorest poem "twin" by wirrow. Hope it does TaraMarie's work justice and she'll get some extra hearts :-)

Thank you Sarah, I think I would still hesitate to make longer version, if not you.

This version is longer. It's 2:40 minutes, so it's sort of  Director's Cut. Well, it's not quite right for I was not going to make long video at first, because has no idea what could accompany the music at the end, because there are no words, and the Wanderer is already back, and it still should look like animation. Remixing my own record. So here it is.

370MB, couldn't upload bigger file. Let me know if you need one, I'll upload in zip.

The village kids at Mulanje took over my video camera for a few minutes and left some blurry shots (which, yipee, double as very nice video textures if anyone needs some) and a string of talk in their native dialect of Chichewa. I will sadly not be returning in the near future and do not know of anyone who speaks Chichewa, so the dialogue of the kids will probably be lost in translation for quite some time. Anyhow, I still love the raw childhood exuberance captured in these soundbytes.

(Sheepish note: Trixie.Label: did I add this to the correct collab? I notice there are quite a few for the dialectics topic...)

Hi folks,

I've been wanting to start a fresh hitRECord collaboration for a while now. This is an experimental film I shot last month of some barn swallows, which I hope some of you find inspiring enough to play with. Maybe add a musical accompaniment, or a VO story, or some motion graphics, or.. ?

Tech background: shot on 16mm using a Bolex camera in rural Ontario; hand processed; handpainted; digitized; colours slightly adjusted in AE.

I guess we all sometimes wish we could loop some parts of our lives and never let them end. But if you stay in a loop for too long, things start to slowly loose their edges, until everything is a big blurr and you're not sure anymore if you're at the beginning or the end, and before you know it, you're lost in the loop...

However, the not-so-deep musical part of my brains loves loops! :) and everything you hear on this track can be looped! you can find thse stems in the results, so if you feel like remixing, you can make your own loop remix of this song. And as always, it would be awesome to hear other people sining or playing along!

Enjoy <3
