Note to hitRECorders:

Sometimes I worry about the attention span here at hitREcord.  I think we have a tendency to skip past the more lengthy records, certainly when it comes to text records. And this internet-attention-span causes us to neglect great works and tends to funnel all of our attention towards quippy, punny, and cutesy art, which has its place and I don't mean to devalue it, or to say I don't enjoy it.  I simply see some of the most astonishing pieces take the background to easier works.  We have so much potential, but it is up to us each to take the time to read these records. I would like to see more short stories get attention, get sourced, even just get read. So here are my recommends in the wonderful world of text.

1.  The House That 1903 Built by ManWithHat- not only did ManWithHat write this story for my first collab on hitREC (and a collaboration still very important to me) but this is perhaps my very favorite piece of writing I have read in this community. It gave me faith in the talent here. The wit involved reminds me ever so slightly of Douglas Adams.  The meat of the story is poignant, and it is so stunningly well written.  deliberate and concise.  I will be most excited when one day something fantastic is done with this story.

2. The Love That The House  by ManWithHat - This is the sequel to the previous story.  Not only is it well written but it perfectly illustrates what a sequel should be.  It brings more meaning and satisfaction to the original story, yet stands alone as a solid work on its own as well.

3. A Little Pink Ballon by CallMeBowzer- This script which could easily be flipped into a sililoquy, is plain and simple a well executed noir side.  With a little light and a lot of shadow, this could become an excellent short.

4. Men Like Trees by nm0131- The imagery in this is very well executed.  And in true hitREC fashion, the peice was a vague reference to a Roethke poem.  art influencing art.  isn't that what we do here?

5. The Horrifically Mundane Life of Sarah Cone by Phenomenaaa - There is a nice dance to the verbage in this peice.  Well written, but with playfullness and an air of sarcasm.  The 'twas the night before christmas' reference is brilliant.  not tritely done, which could have been ery easy.  but rather a borrowed meter and style.  well done.

6. This Year by Metaphorest - as far as new years resolutions go, this poem is on target.

7.   The Human Spirit, Part 1 by Casvellon - looking forward to the rest of this.  Not at all what I expected from the title.  Stylistically I love this.  again.  concise and deliberate.  neer an unnecessary word.  I can't stand when the writer over explains things.  I believe in writers who have faith in the reader's intelect.  (and this goes for music and film as well).  Communicate without explaining.  I applaud this.

8.  Thoughts On Self And The Shadow by Tatterhood - A general testiment to the power of self-awareness and self-editing.  both my vice and my poison.  and both severly lacking in our society.

9. These Lines by r.jensen - I am rather picky about poetry.  It's a very delicate art, and i think most poets are terrible.  This clearly is an exception.  Sometimes flowery imagery should be foregone in exchange for poignancy.  as in this case. awesome.

10. A Man With No Mailbox by justinzrenner - I would like to put this to song.  as i said in the last mention, not all lyricism needs to be fluffy.  Here, a good line that holds a lot of power gives strength to the peice.  and makes it perfect for song in my opinion.

11.  Eleven Years With Gloam by may mcdonough- Seeing as this is my own album, i will include a story that is nowhere near finished, and even less edited, but I am proud of nevertheless. Just because I would love it if other writers would pitch in.

12. Turning Around by Magnolia - This story is a fantastic short, and I was very happy to come across it.  It happens to be the longest of my re-recs thus far, but very very worth the time. Please please read.

13. Davinci, The Fool by me - this is a very vivid, zealous, passionate poem that i would love to hear some narration/voicovers of. if anyone wants to take a stab at it, please do!!

i don't know where i've been

i can't recall if i'm wearing thin

i don't mind if i'm lost

i don't mind if i'm tired and frail and lost

i left a man in my wake

resented him for what he had to say

i don't mind that i'm alone

i don't mind that my heart, it carries stones

my heart, it carries stones

i told it all, unedited

i told it all like i remembered it

they interlocked and then they fled

and met again, but the love they'd made was dead

i am no historian

i'm prone to error in the records i give

i am proud of what i feel

i am proud that my skin is tempered steel
