This is the version of Morgan M. Morganson's Date with Destiny that screened at Sundance 2010. Throughout the festival, this is the one we'd show as our example. Whenever anybody asked, "what is hitRECord?" this was my answer: "Here, watch this short film we're making; you'll never believe who did it and how!"

Albert proposed an off-kilter writing exercise, and then Metaphorest's beautifully strange short story inspired it all. I read the story aloud, Jenyffer.Maria started drawing the characters, Tori animated Jen's drawings, Lula and I did a live-action rendition, Lawrie Brewster took the project to soaring heights with his gorgeous visuals, and along the way there was the help, encouragement and roughly 180 contributions from throughout our community. We brought it to Sundance, and Nathan coaxed the lush and vast music out of the newly coined hitRECorchestra. (Good_Girl_Indie has written out a fabulously detailed timeline documenting what happened and when along this RECord's progression.)

Not only did we close our (two) official hitRECord screening(s) in the New Frontier Microcinema with this piece, but the next day, Sundance added it as a short film to play before the award-winning feature HOMEWRECKER on a much bigger screen.

I actually watched the thing again just now. And I can whole-heartedly say that, besides the progressive methodology with which it was made, and besides the warm reception it received at Sundance, just purely as a little piece of art, as a short film, as a RECord -- I'm as proud of Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny as I am of any work I've ever done.

Thank you, everyone, for making it all happen!
and thanks again...

Hey guys this is a somewhat wide image (the video sees only part as i use it as a cutaway, and for a tracking shot!)

There are loooads of resources to cite, and i will do in just a mo! Massive thanks though to Jenn and her illustrations and countless others, I will include them all momentarily.

Bunnybaby, bleedy.

"On it unlived the corpse of a bunnybaby, its minicular rabbitears as yet unremoved, its olfactory-organ buttonish and evercute."

mushr requested a close up of the bunnybaby and here ya go. I messed up on the bleedy part but left it, maybe someone can make it more bleedish?

I took a 2 day break from Morgan to get my gaming on (I just got my hands on the New Super Mario Bros Wii, ha.) But I now need a break from that, so onward with Morgan! Expect a couple more doodles by the end of tomorrow. :)

live action layer

Joe and I got together a few days ago to get theatrical with Metaphorest's tall tantalizing tale. We wanted to make a spine for the short film we're all making that could pull together everyone's contributions. Not only the original text, but everyone else's drawings, animations, music and various Morgansen oriented records were so inspiring we had to try them on ourselves.

Jen, thanks for drawing such a cute bow and fabulashes!!!

This is simply a base layer - there's lots more work to be done!!!

The walls are for painting!

We need:
- a foodpenguin
- a table
- wax sticks
- other diners?
- herbivorous options
- a bunny baby
- du vin
- a moon
- some starsss
- what else?

Some of these things have already been RECorded to great effect and just need to be REmixed in. We could also use other RECords on hitRECord that might not have been intended for this collaboration, but will work anyway. Some things we'll just have to make starting now...

I'm still working on notating the score, but I thought I'd just throw up the main melody for anyone who wants it.

It should be played legato, but I didn't write in slurs or phrase markings because different instruments would play it differently.

Let me know if I made any errors transcribing it.

a sort of stream of consciousness-y thing ive been writing lately. i saw this timelapse vid today by bluebudgie and was really inspired to experiment with it. i understand how this might be seen as political or preachy or offensive.. but i honestly dont mean to be any of those things. it is directed at me more than anyone else. there's a lot of literary reference nod's in the text.

sub-point: the track is an instrumental version of everything is on fire

Ok, so here's version 1 of the Live Acts Megamix. When doing what I do, I have to set parameters for myself, so I limited myself only to RECords from this contribution...I didn't add any beats or sounds at all to this. I was able to use some great clips, like of jordyn.myah shaking her bottle of vicadin. (LOL!) And I also got to use Joe saying "Haus of Glitch," which just made me feel like P.Diddy.

This is a beautiful and moving moment to me because she is so reluctant to grace the world with her voice and talent. It is Heavenly.

Rian Johnson (who made BRICK and THE BROTHERS BLOOM) wrote this short piece, and here, Philip Baker Hall reads it. With this base voiceover, what's next for this collaboration? More voices? Sound Effects? Music? Illustration? Animation?

A million thanks to Mr. Baker Hall who has given this project just the foundation it needed. Also to JeffPeff for manning the technology during this, one of my favorite sessions yet in the REC Room. And of course, the auteur, long live the Johnsons!

Panels 1 – 6 is:

Well the tales have been told of the gaberdine rogue
and his surgical skill with the knife.
Many ballads been writ bout the two-toned-shoe kid,
his short tragic podia-cal life

But these songs beat to drum take an air of ho-hum
(and the air from a yawning at that)
when set side aside to my midnight train ride
with the man in the herringbone hat.

I lived high on the hog for a summer in Prague,
the fall found me well for myself
having made quite a name in a riverboat game
splitting aces and spitting top shelf.

Hence the wintertime's chill proved a sugary pill
sipping wine in an alpine chateau

One shot to the heart and he fell to the floor.
I knelt by his side, and he stirred.
"You've lost, sir." he said, and he pulled from his pocket
a calling card bearing one word.

and the air took a tremulous chill.
I picked up his card and my heart turned to stone

as I realized what I had killed.

In the twenty years since, I've not won at a game
be it gin, blackjack, poker, roulette.
And my sad golden years I spend soaking in beers,
pushing broomsticks and nursing regret.

Learn the lesson well told from the gaberdine rogue,
and the limited range of a knife.
Take your moral well writ from the two-tone-shoed kid,
how one's sole is not worth wealth in life.

But these valuable tales, if all set on the scales
would be tipped (maybe toppled, at that)
by the one piece of truth every gambler should know,

Here is my take on the Row Your Boat idea. All voices are Regular Joe's as well as the beat box. Hope you enjoy!

Also, as per Joe's suggestion, the song is in the key of A flat major and is at 117 BPMs. The chord progression is A flat major - c minor - D flat major - b flat minor ( I - iii - IV - ii ).

Ok so here's the Anglerpod Votes. A short film for the Morgan Spurlock vote video Collab. So for the past 2.5 weeks I've been working evenings and weekends on this to get it done on time. Yes corners were cut, imperfections were left unperfected, and I wasn't able to get any sound effects in, but over all I'm happy with the result.

Thanks everyone who's records I used in the making of this. If I missed you in the resources, let me know and I'll be sure to remedy it.

Finally, I was trying and trying to find a way to make a tribute for Burning Dan with this, and all I could think of was to use "A mini-Concert For Dan" for the final sequence and to dedicate the video to him. Hopefully this video "Burns on" in memory of him.

As always, feedback is welcome, Remixes encouraged, and if there's anything that bothers you, let me know and I'll be sure to fix the problem in my next record.

Have a lovely Day
