Just got a new mp3 player, one that has a slot for microSD cards. So I can put my other music on the cards and devote the internal memory 100% to hitRECord music! There's so much great music here, I'm not sure the 4GB will be enough. :)
Anyway, I thought I'd make an album here of everything I download to my mp3 player, for two reasons: First, the artists should know their work is being enjoyed! And second, that way I don't have to store back-up files; if anything happens to the player or any tracks on it, I can just re-download them from this one handy spot.
Am I missing a favorite of yours? Recommendations are welcome! And it goes without saying that this album will grow and grow and grow...
This is a step up from my earlier mix in terms of clarity, balance, and drive. I added an additional drum kit in the climax to push the beat, and various EQ, pan and mix tweaks. I have created stereo audio tracks for each of the parts and put them in a zip file which I will attach to this record. FYI, I figure I have 16-20 hours into this project. I look forward to hearing what you think.
i was trying to do something a little different. whether it has worked or not haha, is the question. this is my first Remix, so hopefully this doesnt sound REALLY bad.
Hey guys, Im a producer, songwriter and remixer. I wrote this with total inspiration gathered from this site. You guys rock! If you are a film maker I want to write music for your stuff. HitRecord is awesome! Thanks guys!
Okay, so I know...It's a dangerous thing to come up with your own Christmas song....but I just wanted to. I love Christmas, and I hope you like it! *Still needs tons of work. And, if you like, you can add whatever you want! (especially harmonies!!) I kinda thought it would be cute if a guy sang the 2nd verse and I would harmonize the chorus with them or vice versa...maybe not, just an idea. I'd be happy with whatever!! Merry Christmas!
For guitar chords: I believe it's standard tuning, no capo (possibly capo 1?) D, D Variation, G Chorus: D, B7 variation, G, D, B7 Variation, D
Lyrics:
Christmas time is here
The smell of snow is near
Celebrate cause it's Christmas
Christmas time is here
Hold your loved ones dear
Hold them close don't let them go
Chorus:
So grab your loved ones and hold them tight
For the wonders of a Christmas night
It's the magic in the air
Through the cold we bare
Christmas time is here
Feel the joy an cheer
Celebrate cause it's Christmas
Christmas time is here
Smell the snow it's near
Hold it close don't let it go
Chorus
Love, Katie
When I’m caught out in the rainstorm
When I’m weary and alone
Wrap me tightly, keep my bones warm
Give me shelter, take me home
When I’m drowning in the dark days
When I’m flooded with regret
And the sorrow sends me sideways
Give me shelter from the wet
When I’m sinking into puddles
Soaking nearly to the skin
Wallowing in all my muddles
Whisper to me, take me in
Neath the trees and under awnings
In the archways and the caves
Clouds reveal a new sun dawning
And a light that softly saves
Every puddle is a mirror
Every raindrop is a test
Each downpour can draw you nearer
Or still further from your best
When I’m caught out in a rainstorm
When I’m weary and alone
Wrap me tightly, keep my bones warm
Give me shelter, take me home
This is a strings take on Metaphorest's "Hibernate, Hermit" song with the music being mainly influenced by the song but not exactly a "strings version" of the same song. Metaphorest was very nice to re-sing it for the music. Many thanks to her. She did a great job and the original version is awesome. Do check it out first if you haven't yet.
thanks for listening!
Jazz trio sings Metaphorest's Wanderer. Excavated from 1946.
...just kidding about 1946, though.
I'm working on a video for Tom's poem...this may or may not be the VO used. It's a bit stereotypically Spanish. The flamenco...the guitar...the fact that it's in Spanish.
Anyways, thought it might end up being useful for someone else!

<3
skin me up with the words you spoke
like virgin steel to a veteran oak
like a goodnight kiss when you know it's broke
but you'd rather fall asleep
deception pass on a summer morn
with billows of fog like the dress you wore
when you and i and the good lord swore
and i kissed you on the teeth
oh, that's a long way to go without something to long for
and my, that's a long way to fly without someone to call for
puget sound, plenty late at night
when the moon is out and the water shines
it reminded me of your younger eyes
and your younger disposition
i know i'm nothing new to you
but i'll have you know a thing or two
i've got a tune that i've been humming through
and you've always like musicians
your lyrics found me in a very low-fidelity mood :) i imagine this song being played by a very sweaty band in some hole-in-the-wall bar packed wall to wall with happy drunks.
(which, i'm guessing, wasn't your original vision when you wrote those words down. whoops!)
lyrics (copied from http://www.hitrecord.org/records/363976 )
you just close your eyes and sleep
like the avereage human being
you used to be a dreamer
a cloudwalker
you used to be a prayer
a late night microwaver
funny dreams
from mix of Melatonin and caffeine
coffee with old marshmellows and
pecan praline icecream
you used to be okay
with recycled wind
and my mental decay
talking inbetween the lines
reading all your old newspapers from 1999
but you're no dreamer to me
and i'm no dreamer to you
just dreaming about driving and crashing cars
when you used to dream about me, too
you're not the dreamer i thought i knew..
Ah, so basically the same thing... except more consistent with timing because I noticed that I would speed up, then slow down, then speed up again throughout most of my first one. Hope you find this one better. Even at the slightest?
And thank you for all the recommends on my first one... my face is red as a tomato as we speak. I blush easily. Hm, I think I'll start telling people I'm a chameleon.
Anyways thanks thanks THANKS again! :)
I found Jooshua's guitar track and it sounded like a simple/sweet love song. So, that is just what I made it out to be. I wanted to try something different, and I played some real drums and piano for once, hopefully that trend will continue. The lyrics are overly simple, perhaps somebody else may want to write up something better, but they work for what the song is.
And finally, and most importantly, the awesome Robo J was kind enough to add some kicking bass to the tune. Well, there you have it. Hope the mix sounds ok. I tried some new things.
So Cchellez challenged me to write a cheery song about a dreary subject - and, well, I cheated a bit and recorded a song that I've had floating about for a long while. Hope this still qualifies as a challenge met! :)
I'd love to hear this remixed so if anybody wants separate tracks lemme know!
Ps. The guitar is tuned to drop d and the chords are umm..D and A and some ones I made up that are like the top three strings on the 5th, 7th and 2nd fret :P
Exhumed a body from my bedroom yesterday
He shook the dust off then here’s what he had to say
Don’t waste a second - live loud everyday
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He's my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
He writes me haikus, telling me to go outside
Let go the recluse, even though I’d rather hide
Step out the front door, life’s on your side
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
My friendly skeleton
He shows me how it’s done
I know one day I’ll be one
Til then I’m gonna have some fun
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
I pack his bones up neatly in the old suitcase
I’ve gotten sick of his hollow judgmental face
I’m happy fleeting floating in space
The skeleton that’s under my bed
Is talkative although he’s dead
He’s my bony motivator
To do it now instead of later
My friendly skeleton
He shows me how it’s done
I know one day I’ll be one
Til then I’m gonna have some fun
So I fiiiiinally got a chance to add some harmonies to Lizzie's awesome song - my recording set up isnt ideal and I didnt have much time and excuses excuses :) Hope you don't hate it Lizzie :)
My first official Accordion Record! Written 1/11/11
If you like this, please check out version 2 that I recently recorded. http://hitrecord.org/records/629281
A very, very different, girly take on noiseball's awesome song Teardown. Would love to incorporate more of the soundscape somehow but my skillz are limited. Hint hint :)
Something dark, atmospheric and synth-y for a film or something :)
I took this beautiful song, mixed it, and added strings and piano. I'm really happy with it :)
mixed via Ableton Live Lite 8.
This is the sound I hear in my brain whenever I see these wonderful shadow people collecting on the front pages of the hitRECord site. I hope I can score the music to their lives one day.
tempo - 111bpm
features kara adams on additional vocals. song written by myself and kara as part of the 2009 rpm challenge [to record a whole album in 28 days - resulting album here: http://www.davidding.com/music/album/iamdoingthistohurtyou/] three friends of mine already did some remixes of it: http://www.davidding.com/music/epsingle/tearingdown/
REmix of Joe's original RECord, featuring myself with Dusty, Amy, Unusual Suspect, KittyPimms and Ginella.
this is the FIRST version for the collab. this isn't the "final" (technically, there is no final version, haha). But I will add more contributions as I get to them. I just downloaded Joe's original stems, so I will get to work mixing those along with new added vocals.
Many wonderful thanks to those to added their voices to the song. Did my best to mix everybody in there. Hope you enjoy
experimenting with cutting up bits of sound again
A song that I hate
Water floats around my head
Water floats around my head
Clouds move in and hide the sun
I close my eyes and take a breath
A lark is singing overhead
You say "Yes, we're sinking now,
But can you hear that wondrous sound?"
Ooh
We're sinking now
We're sinking down
We're sinking now
We're sinking down
I close my eyes for one last breath
A lark is singing overhead
You say "Yes, we're sinking now,
But can you hear that wondrous sound?"
everything flows sweetly when you slow down
unwind all your tapes and dance to ghost sounds
i'm in another world, and you're breaking up
but i'll call you soon.. if i make it back
Played on a LIGHT blue ACOUSTIC ukulele. Sorry I changed it up a bit, Dusty. I like the song, though. Someone drum to this, or something. Also I am back from the deadddd! My absence mainly had to do with my having 3 things: 1) a big part in a big play, 2) a job, and 3) an iphone ... yeah.

I first joined hitRECord about, say, 7 hours ago and pretty much the first thing I heard was this drums and bells loop by gweninterrupted. I just had to do something with it!
So, 7 hours later, here's my first proper RECord (is that right?), a summery love song I suppose. Hope you'll enjoy it and I just want to say I already love it here, so see you around!
i took my man out swimming
i took him for a ride
i took him for a dive and
i took his hand in mine
this valley full of wishes
i hollowed out for love
this time i might forget him -
he doesn't look like you.
This is a song I wrote as an intro for a short film a friend of mine is doing. I hope you all like it, it was a lot of fun to make
simple song i did. you can add to it if you'd like.
thanks to Lizzie for starting this, Todd for editing all these voices together, and to everybody who sang. <3
So I'd been trying for ages to come up with some lyrics to go with amferraro's Careless Young...and couldn't manage it, til he posted a poem 'To a Singer' which set me off! This is a very simple addition - the music is so beautiful on its own I didn't want to overdo it. I much prefer Anthony's own song for this poem but thought I'd post this anyway in case it could be of use/interest! :)
..... or is it? Huge thanks to everyone that contributed!
and she said slow down racecar driver are you trying to kill us both
bluegrass hangin in my mirror and we're heading for the coast
cool breeze from a summer night ocean waves gonna slow down time i betcha
worries will float away for a while
sunrise on a salty plane of blue as we make a toast
here's to you and i and may we never ever boast
seagulls fly away in pairs, gold rays gonna bleach my hair
and let your memories savor this for a while
red skin on the sunset blvd. makes it our last night
who knows what the future holds but who cares tonight
lets go back for another dip, spice it up like a slasa chip
and let our worries float away for a while
and she said slow down racecar driver are you trying to kill us both
bluegrass hangin in my mirror and we're heading for the coast
This is me singing along with Megan's beautiful piano cover of wirrow's 'the atom song'
kind of a war song

So this is my first Uke song I've ever written. Hopefully you like it.
Update: I'm rreallly not sure if this is a Public Domain melody...can anyone help me out!?
A Maori lullaby written in 1907 by Princess Te Rangi Pai. I have long been fascinated by the Maori culture and language, and this is one of my favourite songs...so beautiful.
It was published in 1907, which, from my understanding means it is in the Public Domain...if it's not, humblest apologies and I will take this to the Deletion Collab without further ado.
Anyway, this is Monday Night Lullaby...goodnight! <3
Ps I really hope I haven't massacred the pronounciation!
E tangi ana koe
[You are weeping]
Hine e hine
[Little girl, darling girl]
E ngenge ana koe
[You are weary]
Hine e hine
[Little girl, darling girl]
Kati tö pouri rä
[Be sad no longer]
Noho i te aroha
[There is love for you]
Te ngäkau o te Matua
[In the heart of the father]
Hine e hine
[Little Girl, darling Girl]
Translation of lyrics found here: http://folksong.org.nz/hine/index.html
I couldn't resist adding vocals to pammy's beautiful Italian translation of Metaphorest's beautiful song. I just sang along mostly, but up the octave.
This is an old Appalachian spiritual from the 19th century that's in the public domain. It sometimes goes by the name Down to the River, but the first written versions used valley instead of river, so that's what I did here. It was sung by slaves working the field and first appeared in a book of slave songs in 1867. suzyrene brought it to my attention on tumblr.
I love this song and added some oooohs over the verses. I think this is a great song to build on, and I would love to hear other voices on it +harmonies. It just begging for a whole chorus of people. I tried coming up with a harmony after I composed the ooooh harmony, but it wasn't working, so I figured I'd throw it out to you guys.
The lyrics - roughly - are below. I didn't deviate hugely, but they're not 100% accurate.
As I went down in the valley to pray
Studyin' about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way
Oh fathers let's go down
Let's go down come on down
Oh fathers let's go down
Down in the valley to pray
As I went down in the valley to pray
Studyin' about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way
Oh mothers let's go down
Come on down don't you wanna go down
Come on mothers and let's go down
Down in the valley to pray
As I went down in the valley to pray
Studyin' about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way
Oh brothers let's go down
Let's go down come on down
Come on brothers and let's go down
Down in the valley to pray
As I went down in the valley to pray
Studyin' about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way
Come on sinners and let's go down
Let's go down oh, come on down
Come on sinners and let's go down
Down in the valley to pray
As I went down in the valley to pray
Studyin' about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way
first track on album 'spilt milk', but copyright shmoppyrights. right? rights.
and someone asked for the lyrics:
drag your feet, keep your life strapped to your shoulders.
if you don't carve your age into your belt, you wont get any older
it's a mixed up masquerade, a penniless arcade
every face a frown, oh what a crazy town
hang your head, they'll steal the toes right off of your feet
you're lucky to count all ten, when you're living on the street
its a story thats been told, a body thats been sold
'round and around and around. oh what a crazy town
(see) joy around here comes in a little pink balloon
and if you got out of here yesterday it wouldn't be too soon
it's a cardboard palisade, a pocket change brigade
every way is down. oh what a crazy town
a not-so-tiny tune for wirrow.
thanks to megan's beautiful piano additions and rob's absolutely spot-on mixing, this song has finally come to life after about a month of hard work. this is by far the hardest i've ever worked on a song, and i hope you all enjoy it.
i truly love this community, and i love the friends i have made from it. this song encapsulates how i feel about life, hitRECord, just...everything.
so anyway - thanks, everybody.
The rhyming creation myth by wirrow and Metaphorest. I tweaked the words just a little, and my draft of the text is resourced below. And here I recorded a reading of it. There's already been lots of great readings of this poem, and I hope there are more to come. I think it might be cool to mix a grand multitude of voices together to tell this story.
The next thing that probably ought to happen is for visual artists to start drawing specific parts. Pick a stanza you like, or even just one line and turn it into any sort of image. Maybe pretty soon we could have a bit of a storybook slideshow going, which is usually an important step in big animation projects.
words and music by Jacquelyn Wells
i can't believe i totally missed this wonderful poem from tori...
LYRICS:
let's play pretend
until the end,
whenever that will be.
we'll dress in gowns
and dance around
and jump into the sea.
we'll float and fly
straight through the sky
in our hot air balloon,
and then we'll race
to outer space
and steal ourselves the moon.
let's make believe
and never leave
our own fantasy land.
we'll sing love songs
forever long,
now wouldn't that be grand?
and even though
inside we'll know
nothing is as it seems,
as long as we're
together here,
who needs reality?
sang my lyrics over wirrow/gwen's amazing song. um... i hope this isn't terrible. <3 be sure to check out metaphorest's song for these lyrics (resourced) - it's the cheerful version. this is the melancholy version...
A simple little song I made from fractaldust's lovely lyrics.
you kids like dubstep?
i
am uncomfortable
with the way you say my name
cause i
do not belong to you
though you call me something strange
i
can't seem to stay awake
and i don't know what that means
for i
am an astronaut
i have nothing under me
you
are really starting to
climb inside my head
we
are like a negative
hung to dry above my bed
keep
me on this canyon floor
i don't want to venture out
your name
it sounds so strange to me
it's an unfamiliar sound
I hope this adds a little to this beautiful tiny story.
This song of Ryan Patrick's is funny and sad at the same time! I had to do a rendition. haha. Merry Christmas!
OK so I wrote some lyrics and I sang the song. BUT I think this song needs two things. A good singer and a female singer, both of which I am not. So if you want to take a crack at it, please be my guest. The lyrics will be posted below and the song without my vocals will be resourced. Also feel free to change the lyrics up any way you want. REMIX!!!
[lyrics]
It's just another lonely Christmas
Didn't get anything on the wish list
The mistletoe it went kissless
and no one said hey we missed ya
It's just another lonely Christmas
it's just another lonely day
But Santa you forgot to come my way
At least I got my cats and beer
But I've been so good this year
And all I got was a lump of coal
And the drunk santa at the mall calling me a ho
ho ho ho no,
it's just another lonely Christmas
Just another lonely day
But Santa you forgot to come my way
It's just another lonely Christmas
Didn't get anything on the wish list
The mistletoe it went kissless
and no one said hey we missed ya
It's just another lonely Christmas
It's just another lonely Christmas
A song I wrote for Winter
So my little brother asked me to arrange a piano duet of Greensleeves for us to play for the family on Christmas (I know, how cuuuuuuute). It's nothing particularly innovative, but here ya go.
It's rough, but I think it has potential. ;) Feedback, requests, et cetera always welcomed.

Lyrics:
Like autumn leaves I'm falling
Tumbling to the ground for you
Lost a hold of where I've once been
Captured by a gust of you
Swept away by you
Made to dance in your breeze
Left to flutter aimlessly
Like autumn leaves I'm falling
I'm falling for you
Helplessly I'm falling
I'm pulled away by you
Like autumn leaves I'm falling
I'm falling
I'm falling
I'm falling
ghosts of you are
singing softly
through the walls and
under floorboards.
goodnight sweet princes and princesses,
may flights of angels with umbrellas shield your sacred heads from rain
as you flow sweetly on your way.
our lives will never be the same..
slight offbeat addition..
Metaphorest's 'Cosied Up for Christmas' cosied up with Robo_J's 'Beat 714'
at 108bpm
A simple track of me humming Silent Night.
Just a simple version of me singing silent night.
Christmas and apocalypse is here.
It's a Christmas Song! Kind of...Thanks to Kat and Shugs for the music, and Reverie for the first verse :)
La Letra:
[Outside there is a blizzard, the nighttime's droning on
The wind will soon be blowing in an icy, chilly dawn
There's no cold to be felt, although, despite the frozen storm…
Because I’m sitting with you. And you keep me warm.] - Reverie's bit
Been waiting for your plane to come, been waiting half a year
It didn’t feel like Christmas until you came home my dear…
So I'm calling in a snow day- I’m not leaving this hotel
You’re my favorite part of winter, you remind me of the bells.
So let’s drink from the bottle and we’ll whine about our schools
We’ll eat a billion Red Hots and pretend we’re really cool
We’ll fog up all the windows drawing portraits on the glass
And sleeping’s not an option til the bells strike up for Christmas mass...
And I think you know I love you even though it goes unsaid
I see you once a year but you are always in my head
And I’m too scared to ask if you’re in love with me as well
So I treasure every moment up until we hear the bells…
Toyed with calling this "Wibbley-Wobbley Chimey-Wimey", but I'm not sure everyone would get it.
Stems on demand. I'd need to re-record it if this is going anywhere, this is pretty rough.
So, I wrote these sappy lyrics about Christmas a week or so back, and I figured I would try and turn them into a song...so tadah! Christmas power pop! Used MeganCarnes' wonderful "Float Away" instrumental.
Dedicated to you all: thank you for your constant love and encouragement. I wish you all Happy Holidays and all the best for the year to come! Let's make it a cracker <3
A reverb soaked interpretation of music from my childhood
i cut up bits of megan's beautiful song. i have a complicated relationship with these 4 chords.

Lyrics: Don't be scared of my love (scratched up) I don't know, I don't know why... (we don't know, we don't know) 1st verse You speak so freely like I'm not even there This guy that guy this guy that guy this guy over there It really ain't the fact that I wasn't prepared cuz I was then I found out you still cared What to do there? I dunno (we dunno) I'm still a boy (interchangeable with "I'm still in love") 2nd verse The laughter screams your name All the good people walk through me, sending me insane Like I was Just a ghost. past tense and hollow but still a host of intense sentiments too hot to swallow. I'm opposed to this. I miss ya miss. I bless bless you without the hachoo I spot you in a room and I'm posessed by a spirit to get nearer Flesh to flesh is transparent right now but it'll soon be apparent somehow my love for you remains
I've got a secret to tell you
Yes, I've got a secret to tell you
When you close your eyes
The sun won't rise
When you go to bed
The moon is dead
You've been so quiet
Don't deny what you know you are
I can't believe it anymore
But I've gone too far
The devil himself
Couldn't be as happy as you
And mother told me
Always to follow the golden rule
I've got a secret to tell you
Yes, I've got a secret to tell you
When you close your eyes
The sun won't rise
When you go to bed
The moon is dead
You've been so quiet
Don't deny what you know you are
I can't believe it anymore
But I've gone too far
I remembered innocence
I've been guilty ever since
Let’s Get started!!
Let’s skip the talking, steady rocking, I’m a walking to the sound of a bird!
He’s a pistol, let him whistle, all melodies that you never heard!
And he can make, all of your problems disappeeeeear!!
Let’s make ruckus!!
Let’s take a second, to reflect on all the heckling that we’re gonna do!
And we can focus on a motive while I hop a locomotive with you!
And it’s tough, because we, don’t wanna stop!!
Let’s get Kooky!
Let’s make a fire, pop a tire, cut a wire, make a Snow Avalanche!
And now we’re cookin, no one’s lookin, While I do my legs and Shake my dance!
And now I’m breathless, I am! But I don’t……… care.
More film music!
"Yes, We're Sinking" played in reverse. My favorite part starts around the 1:19 mark, although I do like the beginning (what used to be the end) quite a bit too. The actual lyrics sound a little strange, which was expected, but it kinda makes me wish I could speak in some cool new language.
I re-recorded this song last month sometime now that my piano is in tune, but never posted it because I'm still not totally in love with the way it ended up sounding. Anyway, I would love love LOVE for this song to be remixed or even started over from scratch. I tried to pay more attention to my timing and everything this time so it will be easier for anyone that wants to add to it. If you're interested, let me know and I'll upload the stems. I really want to take this song to a whole other world, more voices, more ambient sounds, more more more! I want the "ooo" section to sound heavenly, so if you have any ideas, please share! Chords: Verses: C Am Em C Am Em C Am Em F G Oohs: C Em (a million times) and at the end it's F Em Am then another verse and end in C
love what Bell added and REmixed to my Beat 321
so i returned the gesture and REmixed her
leveled and panned out her vocals. mixed in malicore's drum loop as well.
enjoy.
and thank you Bell :)
