That Which Dares to Be Repeated is becoming a bit of a bear to manage, so here's to starting album number two. *clink*
To say it like I said before: Inspired by a soundtrack compilation that cerebis set up, I am going to rustle up an ongoing collection of some of "the embarrassment of riches" (I love that quote! thx cerebis!) of music found here on hitRECord, that I listen to while writing, driving, etc.
I am very much a "write the scene of the music that I hear" type of person. The mood I'm already in, coupled by the interpreted mood of the music, can produce all sorts of stuff-- I call it the movie projector inside my head. Sometimes all I do is loop music, so that a particular mood might stay in place.
This is the music that dares to be repeated :-)
Altered
There's a welcome party held under ground
For the salty girl from our sugar town
She's the chosen queen
Of our little scene
And she's back after the operation
All the girls and boys
Out there making noise
Came to show her a sweet time / Are in awe of the alteration
So very sugary now
We’re gonna make her feel secured (Can't shake off that sensation)
Protected, safe and re-assured (This feeling of sedation)
We've finally had her fully cured (Lack of orientation)
So sweet, from head to tit to feet (Can't shake off that sensation)
So holy, so right, so complete (She's lost in their translation)
So sweet, She's soon to have a fit (Succumb to desperation)
So very sugary now
She's the chosen queen
Of our little scene
And she's back after the operation
All the girls and boys
Out there making noise
Are in awe of the alteration
She's out on a limb
It's a broken dream
Caught in a chemical reaction
Now it all looks grim
And her lights are dim
Can't shake it off, shake shake it off OFF
a not-so-tiny tune for wirrow.
thanks to megan's beautiful piano additions and rob's absolutely spot-on mixing, this song has finally come to life after about a month of hard work. this is by far the hardest i've ever worked on a song, and i hope you all enjoy it.
i truly love this community, and i love the friends i have made from it. this song encapsulates how i feel about life, hitRECord, just...everything.
so anyway - thanks, everybody.
i love TCS's little vocoder RECord. Slowed it down a little. Cut & Pasted. added the main vocal from eaneikciv's tiny tune, to fill the space.
there's plenty of space to have fun with. follow the groove.
REmix production, drum programming, bass: meeeeeeeeeeeeee
Happy REmixing!
<3
this REmix uses the vocal and drums from Metaphorest's original RECord.
experimented with different variations before settling on this one.
REmix production, arrangement, Synthesizer, 808 programming, Guitar: meeeeeeeeeeee
Hope you enjoy, and happy REmixing
<3
RJ
and many thanks to Sarah for making such a wonderful and REmixable song (and the stems too!) <3
i used to fly with peter pan in videoland and i saw people coming out from underground. gather up you silent searchers and lets go loudly into quiet churches lets surround the walls of guarded buildings and make our sound. lets invade palaces, they are always around when we sing out their anthems but not when we drown in video lala
so i'm walking at a forest alone at night, and it's almost completely pitch black, and i can't tell where i'm going. at one point, i trip over something and put my hand on a tree to brace myself (cue music). on the trunk of the tree, from my hand, a golden light emerges and expands to cover the whole tree. it then keeps growing and covering all the trees, bushes, flowers, and every other living thing in the forest (except me). at first i stare in wonder, then i get all happy and start chasing the light.
that is what this one is about.
Dulce Bellum Inexpertis
Today I had an idea. The idea was a man who found a way to create winter. He would make electric snowflakes, electric blizzards, elecrtric ice, all using his invention to create a winter wonderland whenever he chose. This song is about the first time he ever turned his machine on
Albert was looking for vocals for some of his tracks with lyrics on the theme of depression. So here's what I've come up with using his excellent track '23-bass riff'. I looped it, added a vocal line or two and some weird ambienty sounds. Hope ya like it Albert!
Oh and my headphones are busted so sorry if the mix sucks - I can upload stems if you like it!
The air is my enemy
the sun comes up without me
the minutes pollute my lungs
and dull my mind and tie my tongue
pit of my stomach churning coal
my soul is old
my soul is cold
the ravens use me as their perch
call off the search
I'm in the earth
the mud is up to my chest
I only want to rest
my heavy eyelids turn me blind
I can't unwind the binds
Here comes the deluge
there goes my shortlived refuge
home is the dark days
I am the knot that frays
I add some trumpet on the awesome Robo_J's song. I didn't mix it very well and i didn't add effect, so i'll upload the stem if anyone want to mix it better and add some reverb, or else...
just an improv song about a memory one night. : ]
thnx
while working on a REmix of "the prize," i got this riff in my head. so i put prize on hold and worked on this.
sampled a bit of Lava Tornado and another tasy find from GwenInterrupted's trusty loop collection.
Guitar, Bass, Arrangement ~ meeeee
rather than sit around with it, i'm sharing it in its "rough draft" state. or whatever.
i'd love to get someone doing a nice hip hop flow to it. or something of that nature.
tbc.
this is why i hit RECord.
<3
This RECord can now be heard on the HitRECorderly #3 Vinyl (released Summer 2012) as "Diamond in the Rough"

by REquest of ElspethKoktavi (http://hitrecord.org/users/ElspethKoktavi) here the instrumental version of my "i love words (venns RMX)" (http://hitrecord.org/records/388042)
I'm probably going to regret posting this tomorrow without giving it time to sink in. But hey what the heck,... I wrote this song today in the view of a last person roaming on earth crying out for help. Hope this doesn't offend anyone. Lyrics:
Where am I heading in such percussion
the beat is dulling to my ears
my heart yearns for some desire
my hunger is all i fear
Oh, Hosanna
where does a lone man go from here
they always told me knowledge is power
it doesn't matter anymore
out here it's about survival
I'm making my way to the shore
oh, Hosanna
I cry out but nobody hears
oh, Hosanna
I cry out but nobody hears
I was a man without an agenda
without a barcode under my skin
so I wonder every second
why am i the one that suffers the end
oh, Hosanna
where does a lone man go from here
oh, Hosanna
where does a lone man go from here
i cry out but nobody hears
REmix using RegularJoe's stems and GwenInterrupted's drum loop (sampled from a RECord from happybodyslowbrain), slowed down for this REmix
REmix arrangement, production, additional guitar, bass, synth & drums by Robo_J
*This is a Stereo RECording*
It took me almost 8 hours to write two minutes worth of music....
just brainstorming possible themes / moods / whatever. this is by no means anything close to finished, i just wanted to throw it out there and get some feedback. i listened to joe's reading a couple times and this recording just sort of happened.
i know it's very early for music -- this isn't intended to go into whatever this production turns out to be. it's just an early concept.
This is the final boss, its intense yo.
A song I wrote for Winter
Loved RJ's "Epochonus" text REC...and then I got playing with GarageBand loops...and then I had a glass of wine...and then..well, yeah.

Rusted words on a silver plate
Served to me with a thread of fate
I'm sitting with the madness whose faces I wanted to hide
Wait in vain for the whiskey priest
He's busy choking on his mid-day yeast
I'm sweating out the Nile alone in the waiting room
Doubts and fears are relentless and loud
I'm just an outlaw in the in-law crowd
I'm trailing empty spaces waiting for somebody
Not anybody, gotta be you
High and feasting on the August spice
My fortune lies in the throw of the dice
His curled lips are smiling, putting my faith to the test
Chances shrinking in the dying light
Shadows moving in to start a fight
I feel it in a rhythm the pressure is starting to soar
Doubts and fears are relentless and loud I'm just an outlaw in the in-law crowd
I'm trailing empty spaces waiting for somebody
Not anybody, gotta be you
Dusty bones of a lover's bed
Leaking words that I left unsaid
The candlewax is dripping, my hours are falling away
My broken mouth is teasing rhymes
Poisoned heartache and a vicious crime
I'm spreading rumours, arriving late With rusted words on a silver plate.
Doubts and fears are relentless and loud I'm just an outlaw in the in-law crowd
I'm trailing empty spaces waiting for somebody
Not anybody, gotta be you
Here's a little song smweed, gweninterrupted, and monkeychow wrote back in the 30's when they were writing songs for such greats as the Soggy Bottom Boys. Their career ended abruptly when monkeychow was rudely arrested and sentenced to 20 yrs on the chain gang in Mississippi. Gweninterrupted and smweed went on to successful careers as sireens. That's right, I said sireens.
Added some harmonies to Pasiv's remix of Vickie's tiny song.
a song i put together for the 2nd version of the MetaForest, which i imagine as a video....but i am swamped with work right now and it looks like it will be ages before i get to it, so why not let you guys play with it? :-) it's basically a repeating theme with variations on each repeat, plus a small bridge. it could easily be edited down to less than its current 3 minutes, so if anyone wants that, let me know.
That awkward moment when you realize you can't run away from your problems
A track I produced ages back for Jonny Dark.
metaphorest uploaded stems from hindsight, so i couldn't help but re-record my parts and give it a more spacey / shoegazey feel. i hope it sounds a bit cleaner than the original remix i did. anyway, sorry if this all feels a bit redundant...
lyrics (from metaphorest's record, in resources)
Up in the attic is a faded photograph
of your wedding day
that's the way time goes these days
Out of your window is an unfamiliar scene
You remember when it was all empty and green
You remember when people said
exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the universe felt young
and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new
Down in the basement is a box of broken dreams
Promises pulled apart, torn at the seams
Phantoms and ransoms you picked up along the way
In a life lived right, that's the price you've got to pay
You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the universe felt young and so did you
You remember when your love was fresh and new
You remember when people said exactly what they meant
You remember when a spade was called a spade
You remember when the things you held onto were owned, not lent
You remember when the people you loved stayed
just unwinding from work. read dianasev's piece and it put me in a mood.
I took Metaphorest's advice and rerecorded the vocals so that they can be heard :-D
Megan and I worked on a song. RAWR.
loved dianasev's metaphor, had to put it to song. really soft, really slow.
(also just made a fb artist page which can be found in my profile here. i'm not big on social networks, but i realized it'd make it slightly easier for me to connect with some of you. stop by if you can! i'll be fleshing it out soon so it's not so bare)
oh, lover mine
my lids are getting heavy
oh, lover mine
i'm fickle and unsteady
but i've settled on a phrase
and i'll tell it to you straight
you are to me like old leather
oh, lover mine
i've loved and i have broken
oh, lover mine
i've not meant what i've spoken
but i'm feeling honest now
you are to me like old leather
originally meant as the music for "The Disintegrating Memory", it seemed to take a life of its own.
everything flows sweetly when you slow down
unwind all your tapes and dance to ghost sounds
i'm in another world, and you're breaking up
but i'll call you soon.. if i make it back
I first joined hitRECord about, say, 7 hours ago and pretty much the first thing I heard was this drums and bells loop by gweninterrupted. I just had to do something with it!
So, 7 hours later, here's my first proper RECord (is that right?), a summery love song I suppose. Hope you'll enjoy it and I just want to say I already love it here, so see you around!
i took my man out swimming
i took him for a ride
i took him for a dive and
i took his hand in mine
this valley full of wishes
i hollowed out for love
this time i might forget him -
he doesn't look like you.
okay. so. This is my first ever true audio record. I was hoping to write a song, but I'm not great with words (what up small vocabulary) and I can't sing (yay tone deaf!), so I was *hoping* maybe someone can work with this. Right now it's just an instrumental, created with GarageBand loops.
When putting it together, the thought was to have the song be based around building and crashing, like slowly churning until overflowing. Not so much like pent up anger bursting, but more like a sea of emotion that grows until it's almost numbing (if that makes sense.)
BUT feel free to of course take it wherever you want. As I said, my first time EVER trying to do something like this, so I would really love your feedback - positive, negative, everything in between.
I took a little journey into the electronic realm. Listen with headphones!
sometimes i work really hard on my music. other times i slow one of my old songs way the fuck down and add a few effects and release it as a new RECord.
A bit of a departure from what I normally do. Instrumental track to a house remix I did. Fun with synth programming!
Little jazzy number for you all :)
the innocent smiles she wore as a child have been replaced
by difficult scenes reenacted in dreams she thought she'd forgotten
the difference between us is the chemicals that make us hungry for something more
the heartbreak we promised wouldn't come around is sleeping in our bed
something is watching from the window
it knows what you're afraid of
i can feel its breath on my neck
and the laughter echoes through the halls
It's been a while since I've written a song with just piano, so it's about that time. This piece makes me think of a Jane Austen novel, which is where it got it's name.
oh josephine
open the shutters
and throw on some clothes
we're getting clean
we're driving and driving
away from the places we know
oh josephine
don't look so somber
we've almost arrived there
and you'll ask me
how did we stay so
long in that place that we
your poor heartbeat
it looks awful tired
i watched as its fire went out
don't fall asleep
concussions like these
are liable to lead you aground
First song of 'The Sad Series'
A little more electronic in my boold
This is a song I wrote awhile back that todd68976 encouraged me to upload. (Thank you, sir!) I love songwriting, but most of what I write I feel is meant for someone else to sing. So I'm uploading a few songs in hopes that they find the voice they were meant for. <3
Selfish Song
I'm moody. I'm jealous.
Even a little bit reckless.
I'm bitchy. I'm needy.
You already know I'm greedy.
I'm fearless. I'm freaky.
You know I can be real kinky.
I'm flirty. I'm giving.
But don't ask me to stop living.
You knew who I was when we met
And I have no regrets for being this way.
You think that I won't compromise
But I'm tired of all the lies that I'm living each day.
you think I don't know who I am
But you wouldn't give a damn even if I did know.
i just want to live my life
And I know what's right for me, so just let it go.
You don't have to understand
Just let me be who I am.
You don't have to agree
Just let me be me.
You don't have to compromise
If you'd just realize
You don't have to sing along.
This is my selfish song.
I'm loud and outspoken.
My spirit can never be broken.
I'm loaded with amo
So you'd better put on your camo.
I'm very outrageous.
My sex is a little contagious.
And you love it. You know it.
So you'd better not blow it, cuz
I understand the recording quality is not perfect, but I've always found that if something that would record I would use it.
Concept song for end credits that didn't make the cut for a 48 Hour Film Project, 2011 in Detroit.
I haven't posted anything in awhile, so here's this.
another song about the death of a fictional character.
Escape into your fire.
124 BPM
Made a few changes with thisishowiroll's feedback and suggestions in version 2.5, enjoy!
this wil be my last song for awhile. I feel like it's about time I give my mind a rest
I imagined an abandoned ballroom. Destroyed by time, overgrown with ivy and a crumbling ceiling. During the night, ghosts come out and ballroom dance with eachother
I just feel like uploading stuff from my library... so, here's a little piece that I did just drums. Add something to it, or cut it up, whatever. At the very least we can use it for the hitRECord 2012 Mayan ceremony... complete with loin clothes and dancing maidens... LOL I dunno. Enjoy.
songs i wrote about a girl
An old track, from my unreleased EP. (Recorded in the late 90's).
first half as is, second half with delay.
This has chords I invented but on guitar they can all be played with two fingers. In chordbook.com they are Asus2/E, A add 11, D maj 9, Asus2/E, Em, Asus2/E. The middle 8 is A 6 add 13, F#m7 (add D#), Asus2/E, then Em, Asus2/E again. I recorded it to a 70 bpm bossa nova beat. The point of all that is I think it would be really cool if somebody added to it.
When I heard this song by Almost Sound it reminded me of my favorite influence in music. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.
and throw away the clocks
Dead and Dying Angels-a song by James A. Mangum and Jason Mangum, based on the novel "Dead and Dying Angels" (Libro Uno of the Dos Cruces Trilogy) by James A. Mangum
Did this one last night. This made me think of marching elephants in a dream.
