Yep, yep... re-recs for the week:)
How to wear your HitRECord button! by themetafictionist -- cute, fun and well put-together. I'd love to see more videos in this vein... would be kinda fun to explain the hitRECord process and other things about the site in 50s news-reel type videos
Skeletal Lovers by Sparra -- Sparra put together some really lovely and perfect images for this poem.
In the Rain (With Robo J) by The Morning Hallows -- More than an awesome REmix, just a wonderful song.
Yellow Light by lava_tornado -- This has such a great low-fi retro vibe to it. It reminds me of something that would have played behind a littel spot on Sesame Street when I was a kid int he early 80s or something. It would be awesome as music for any type of retro-feel video.
Dreamer (Words by messyowl) by amferraro -- I am really digging amferraro's music, it's all so good. I especially like this because it represents such a great REsult of the REmix process.
Rare Flower by RedHeadMonster -- Such a great retro-feel (i'm all about that this week, huh?:) image. COuld be used in a lot of different ways for REmixes.
the resilience of a soul by phenomenaaa -- I would love to see this story turned into a short film or something. When I have a voice again (stupid cold/allergies) I'd love to give it a voice over. Such a gorgeous story and I love Phen's writing style (I love parentheses:)
And if by amysz -- another lovely poem by amysz... this is one of those poems that makes you really feel the emotions as you read it.
My Backgrounds by LydiaSaskia - great backgrounds and it's awesome to have albums like this of raw resources to work with.
The Reflections Pack by cerebis Again, it's so, so helpful to have albums of beautiful raw resources like this to work with. I love that people are putting them in album format so it's easier to find a bunch of various choices when someone else needs something.
I had this idea while I was in New Orleans. I wanted to try and make a sort of PSA about how to wear your hitRECord button fashionably. It's supposed to be cheesy and ridiculous, so please don't be offended. :)
I was inspired by Robo_J's track, and one thing led to another with this as the end result!
I found Jooshua's guitar track and it sounded like a simple/sweet love song. So, that is just what I made it out to be. I wanted to try something different, and I played some real drums and piano for once, hopefully that trend will continue. The lyrics are overly simple, perhaps somebody else may want to write up something better, but they work for what the song is.
And finally, and most importantly, the awesome Robo J was kind enough to add some kicking bass to the tune. Well, there you have it. Hope the mix sounds ok. I tried some new things.
your lyrics found me in a very low-fidelity mood :) i imagine this song being played by a very sweaty band in some hole-in-the-wall bar packed wall to wall with happy drunks.
(which, i'm guessing, wasn't your original vision when you wrote those words down. whoops!)
lyrics (copied from http://www.hitrecord.org/records/363976 )
you just close your eyes and sleep
like the avereage human being
you used to be a dreamer
you used to be a prayer
a late night microwaver
from mix of Melatonin and caffeine
coffee with old marshmellows and
pecan praline icecream
you used to be okay
with recycled wind
and my mental decay
talking inbetween the lines
reading all your old newspapers from 1999
but you're no dreamer to me
and i'm no dreamer to you
just dreaming about driving and crashing cars
when you used to dream about me, too
you're not the dreamer i thought i knew..
I continue to be utterly floored by the positive response to my dinky little circles texture I drew a while back, mostly because I'm sort of infamous for being incapable of drawing circles. Like, it's a thing, where I'll be trying to diagram something quickly for my mother and she'll take one look at it and go, "Julia, how is it that you can draw so beautifully and yet you are incapable of making a circle look like a circle?" That is a good question, Mom! I have no idea!
So when I saw the texture rejjie made of my circles I was flabbergasted and overcome with joy. Like, even more than I was when the circles got re-rec'd. I seriously suggest you go to the resources, heart the texture, and use it as much as physically possible, because it's mind-bogglingly gorgeous. And I instantly had to draw something for it. It's not anything particularly imaginative - pretty lady + cool texture so I don't have to bother with background is sort of my default mode and a lot of what I drew back when I was considering doing art for a living, but I think it looks nice. And when my mom walked past, she gave it a verbal thumbs up. So we already know it's better than my circles.
I didn’t hate you when we broke up (called it quits, ended things, decided to see other people, wanted to take a break, whatever you’ve been calling it -- we broke...
