Re-Recs 4.10.2011
Why? Most Random (roughcutmatt) I really love this remix, and how it tells a story through music, videos, images, and Regular_Joe’s VO all put together by using random records. It’s impressive and inspiring to me. (editing is still something I need and want to learn to do)
Regularity remix (dot17) This is a great remix of Regular_Joe’s latest mini regularity videos. It is edited very well. I find this especially inspiring because dot17 just joined HR.
My Heart Carries Stones (A Cappella REmix) (remilyp) This is a beautiful remix of this song, beautiful voices, no music needed.
A New Hevn: Urth’s Treasures (ZeNami) I love this image, I also think it could go with a few different lines from the poem. I actually think it illustrates “urth gathered up its tales and forced them all to huddle close surrounded them with rails.” I had been trying to figure out a way to illustrate this and I think this image does it beautifully.
Hevn & urth creating (Calypso) I love all the detail in this image, my favorite part is the rainbow with all the creatures and things coming out. So beautiful and amazing interpretation. <3
Songs and Fires (Danah) I think I have loved all of Danah’s hevn and urth images they are all so beautiful! I really love the coloring in this one, and that the fire isn’t just the traditional colors.
We Shall Not Cease From Exploration (song) (tiafischer) This is another really good a cappella piece to some of wirrow’s lyrics. This totally gets stuck in my head every time I listen to it. A couple cute videos have already made using it, but I think it would be cute to get a bunch of different videos and edited them together.
Until the End (megancarnes remix) (Metaphorist) I love the additions that Metaphorist added to megancarne’s piano piece. The singing is of course lovely, but I also really love the thunder.
I am 2 D (GimikJo) This is a really good remix of the twin poem, one thing I love about hit record is seeing all the different interpretations and remixes. I think this video and editing uses the poem to tell a story, and does it beautifully.
Foreign Sounds (video) (bsmith) I know it has been said before that it would be wonderful to see the artists on HR actually performing their songs. I am really glad that bsmith made this video of amferraro, it is beautiful. I hope that all the other musical geniuses will start making videos like this also. <3
hey hey! Matt here,
This is a most random mix of some random records. After trawling through the vast realm of hitrecord I decided to make something...anything!
It started random, but has sort of turned into a quirky little piece, cnostructed with a VO from one of regularJoes regularity records to say everything...and nothing!
that's kinda the point, to not mean anything specific, but to hold meaning in abundance!
to me it's what hitrecord's all about...to you it might be different! I just had fun making it!
hope you enjoy...I sure did :)
p.s. make sure to check the resources and REmix...there's some great stuff in there :)
Just thought I would try to make the video Joe was talking about in the re:Regularity video.
:)
I loved this song, so I did an a cappella cover of it with the help of the lovely Tia Fischer!
This is how I imagine the first part of “a new hevn” (the first 13 stanzas). I tried to follow wirrow’s instructions as accurately as possible and I hope I managed to do that ^_^. (I tried to draw androgyne faces but the hair makes them kinda feminine).
Since I’m pretty lazy (and always short of time) I tried to squeeze in as many aspects as possible… And I also tried to stay away from Photoshop and practice painting :P (I only whitened the background:).
So the story starts (similar to “a blot story”) with a water drop and a little cloud.
Hevn is the little cloud (since clouds symbolize heaven). The cloud grows an eye (whose iris is the sun) and metamorphoses into the final hevn, which, as wirrow suggested, plays a flute.
Urth starts off as a water drop (the primordial waters). It too grows an eye (having the earth ball as an iris) and finally turns into the face which stands next to hevn within the yin yang symbol- formed by their hair (water and clouds).
Hevn plays the flute (pours its soul into it) and the melody “floats” towards urth, symbolically “infiltrates” its hand and comes out through its palm, metamorphosed into a rainbow. Each color of the rainbow takes the shape of stories (snake and apple, big fish eating small fish, etc)
The left side of the drawing is intentionally gray and white and the right one is colored to show the fact that only together the two can create something beautiful.
Sorry for the long description but I’m not completely satisfied with how some images look (I never knew it’s so hard to draw water and clouds X).
I guess this is a more child's playground take to it. Regular Joe's adorable birthday "doo doos" gave me an idea for the lines. It seemed like something I would have skipped and chanted as a little girl.
Piano genius by megancarnes, vocals/words and thunder by me :) Basically Megan asked why I hadn't yet sung over one of her pieces - and I had no good answer - so went to quickly right the wrong!
As it happened the piece that caught my ear was something she wrote for my 'Actress and the Sorrow Bird' idea so the whole thing was wonderfully serendipitous and cyclical! Anyway here's the melody/lyrics I came up with - the mix might not be quite right as one of my headphones doesn't work (yes I blame my tools) :) Feedback welcome!

Re-RECommendations albums is a good way to dig up RECords we like. An other way is to remix them. I wanted to do something with TaraMarie's "Life is But a Dream Dance" for a long time. I thought it would go perfectly with Metaphorest poem "twin" by wirrow. Hope it does TaraMarie's work justice and she'll get some extra hearts :-)
amferraro and i found the darkest, sketchiest alley we could and recorded this rendition of foreign sounds. we were only attacked once.
