Just something I thought up when I read the poem.

Hevn and Urth are depicted as two characters here. I kind of drew both of their mouths open to signify that each of them is telling a story. The hands and smoke reaching out and intertwining kind of show that they are still, somehow, in the end, drawn and linked to each other.

Yup. I think there's still things that can be done to it, so if you want to, you know, add some more stuff to it, please do. x-x

...and poured into the ocean.

So, I will be posting some of the sketches that hit my mind as I listen to wirrows ideas and read new hevn over and over again. Please gimme some feed back so I can edit and draw to what y'all picture...

so I listened to Wirrow's direction record, and subsequently Joe's request, and decided to work with the line

"whose waves formed winged beasts that leapt and fluttered into motion."

Eventually I intend to work something for that little section, but it's early concept days yet...

This is by no means a finished piece, and is simply an early concept (and probably outline) of an image I have going through my head...

My idea?

basically...Hevn and Urth are speeding and swirling under the waves for a few seconds (aerial tracking shot) before Urth emerges (with the crash of waves, and tilt up) with closed wings. Urth spreads his wings, and Hevn is clutching Urth as their bodies are intertwined!

that's the idea, but we've seen my animation (and drawing) skills...so lets not get our hopes up!!!

This is how I imagine the first part of “a new hevn” (the first 13 stanzas).  I tried to follow wirrow’s instructions as accurately as possible and I hope I managed to do that ^_^. (I tried to draw androgyne faces but the hair makes them kinda feminine).

Since I’m pretty lazy (and always short of time) I tried to squeeze in as many aspects as possible… And I also tried to stay away from Photoshop and practice painting :P (I only whitened the background:).

So the story starts (similar to “a blot story”) with a water drop and a little cloud.

Hevn is the little cloud (since clouds symbolize heaven). The cloud grows an eye (whose iris is the sun) and metamorphoses into the final hevn, which, as wirrow suggested, plays a flute.

Urth starts off as a water drop (the primordial waters). It too grows an eye (having the earth ball as an iris) and finally turns into the face which stands next to hevn within the yin yang symbol- formed by their hair (water and clouds).

Hevn plays the flute (pours its soul into it) and the melody “floats” towards urth, symbolically “infiltrates” its hand and comes out through its palm, metamorphosed into a rainbow. Each color of the rainbow takes the shape of stories (snake and apple, big fish eating small fish, etc)

The left side of the drawing is intentionally gray and white and the right one is colored to show the fact that only together the two can create something beautiful.

Sorry for the long description but I’m not completely satisfied with how some images look (I never knew it’s so hard to draw water and clouds X).

So this was one of the many pictures I had in my head when reading a new hevn. It kinda incorporates multiple things from the reading and what not. Let me know what you think. :J

I had been thinking about doing an overall concept for a new hevn for awhile.  I started working on this earlier this evening. I was about to set this aside for another day until I saw paperlilies' H/E verse 1 drawing.  Then I knew I could complete my idea.

Cernunnos is originated in celtic polytheism. It is one of my favourite 'gods' or creatures i think, esp. because of the 'mother earth' 'mother of nature' aspect he/she/it has. I tried to put those feelings in the picture,

Urth probably acting things out that Hevn is talking about, this is how nature comes along, with all its diversity. I see things growing where Urth is walking and at first i wanted it to be roots but hm, ended up being cloudy flowery things. I do know that maybe this kind of picture is a bit overdone? But i still wanted to do it and it is a kindof personal picture as well.

(In general: I just wanted to do some outlines/sketch ideas i had in mind after listening to wirrows voice record BUT then it somehow grew and i realise it's probably not that usable for animations, though i can see it not really moving but with swirly things around and ... yeah. Hoping it inspires you <3)

I really, really, really wanted to contribute to the Creation collab, but I wasn't quite sure how to go about drawing for it. Compared to most people on the site, I'm a particularly traditional sort of artist. I'm good at drawing people, but not so good at drawing other things. So I decided to draw fetuses.

This sounds a lot more gross and random than it actually is. I did have some logic behind why I google image searched the word "fetus" looking for reference pictures. (I suggest unless you have a strong stomach, don't do that.) See, fetuses, no matter what species they come from,kinda look the same for the first two thirds of their gestation. Which is pretty interesting, if you think about it. There is a sort of universal constructive logic to how an animal is put together, and it's easiest to observe the templates used when something is a fetus. Which is why evolutionary scientists look at them a lot.

Plus, I thought that was a good thing to reference, for the representation of a tiny story. Because in addition to them being pretty abstracted forms, it worked well symbolically. The whole point of stories is you don't know what they're going to mean or become, right? So it all makes sense. (Though they do look particularly human, for fetuses, but I made an effort.)

As for the lotus, there's two reasons behind that. One, it's common in Indian creation myths. A lot of their gods are born out of lotuses - in particular, my favorite goddess, Sarasvati, patron of all forms of learning and creativity, was born from one. She's often depicted floating cross-legged on a giant lotus, and usually carries a blossom in one of her many hands.  But also, two, I just really like lotus flowers. And I think they're pretty.

i was mostly inspired by the opening lines of the story, when everything peacefully stands still and they find themselves just being there.

i'm pretty bad at coloring (i always draw with pencil, black crayon and black ink), so this isn't exactly what i was aiming for, but i'm pretty sure there's someone who could re-color this and make it pretty. i'm also resourcing the polished sketch, just to give you guys a clean sheet to start from.

ahm not sure if its as self explanatory as i see it...well its urth shapeshifted as light and birds bringing a branch of the star tree to hevn. a little biblical but hey it is a creation myth ;)

Fun fact - apparently y'all love fetuses! (Fetii? Either way sounds wrong.) So since I got the okay from the community and the thumbs up from Wirrow, I decided to go ahead and explore the concept further. Here's an itty-bitty story being born. Looks a little less human, I think. I have this larger and in black and white for when we actually will need to use it, but for posting purposes, I like giving things a little color.

Also, anyone who knows how to use Adobe Flash to animate this and does is my hero. I will pretty much throw a ticker-tape parade in your honor.

I realize that this is not much of a blob and stuff like hoped, but I got this idea and couldn't get it out of my head, so I drew it. :P You might see some really shaky lines, because I came back from a game of badminton and went to draw this immediately afterward. I'm such a weakling that my hand trembled.

When re-reading A New Hevn this morning this is the section that gave me the strongest image in my mind, so here's an attempt. Hevn and Urth obviously are not in it figure-wise but they are in it. In wirrow's creation ideas the need for a black background was mentioned which actually gave me the idea of when the stories start blossoming they could take over the image and Hevn and Urth would change shape. Black background at the top for Hevn looking down at the stories merely observing and being entertained by them while Urth is below being taken over by them. Anyway, that was the original idea.

Sorry it's a bit messy.

  Torn is an semi-abstract take on a new hevn. Instead of creating a literal translation of the piece, I focused on the emotional aspect of it. Specifically the strife and turmoil that comes out during the quarrel between hevn and urth: from lines:

I made the world go round!!! ^o^

So this is my remix of Danah's great record. Inspired by Niki's beautiful "angels" I started my first animation- seems like hitRECord is the place where I do many things for the first time: paintings, video editing, animations...I hope it IS an animation because on one of my laptops I have problems viewing it and on the other it doesn't fit in completely 0_0

I've worked more than half a day on this without a #%@$9 graphics tablet and I'm feeling like a pixeled pixie right now (but very happy to have learned a little animating :) If anybody would like to polish it I will gladly submit all the 37(!!!) frames if it's useful:}

I did this just a while back when I read the last stanza of the poem 'A New Hevn', but I never got around to posting it because I haven't colored it or anything. But I figured, hey, you guys might figure something out with this, so yeah. :D

"but we’ll meet again back at the start

we'll do it all again, by heart
a new hevn and a new urth."

In wirrow's creation direction, he talked about five year olds on a play date, which made me think of hide and seek and catch with stories. (cont'd)

This is the result of that... I sort of see it animated, with hevn popping out from behind the story-ball, and earth sending another story-ball spinning. And then one story-ball could come at the screen and expand to a new background...

I am... less satisfied that all the stories are balls, as they should be not set in stone and should be shape shifting...

Several of these story-balls are creation myths – the earth on the turtle's back (native american/canadian), the world from an egg laid by the great cackler (the Hermopolitan version of the ancient Egyptian creation myths), and people from maize in the Popol Vuh (Mayan). It would be neat if people made other ones, if this idea takes...

For the stanza:

I wish I had the tools to really polish this up and make it prettier, but hopefully one of you guys would like to collaborate on it to make it prettier! :D

I hope it will upload...There are around 110 frames 0_o ( 12 frames/ sec I think) and it took me almost 10 hours to complete (that is probably because I still have tons of stuff to learn about animating) :P

But...10 hours for 10 seconds...come on! Lol, however, it was so fun! :D

So hevn (in its absolute cuteness:) is just floarting around, it feels strange all of a sudden... urth appears and they swirlly :P unite metamorphosing into the yin-yang symbol :}

A bit different look for hevn and urth, they popped into my head (somewhat) like this when I was listening to this verse read by Joe. So I guess they are hevn and urth of another story cycle.

This is probably gonna be my last animation of this kind. I had a long list of great pictures I wanted to animate but sadly (or luckily, depending on the point of view, lol:) I don't seem to have the time for it... (-_-)

I love Lea Daniel's style and this is one of my favorite drawings made by her. I animated it according to my personal interpretation of her art: the spiral stands for infinity since it's spinning around endlessly, suggesting the fact that the story will go on forever, end and start anew.

The little branches are regressing on hevn and growing around urth's eye to symbolize the interdependency of these two characters.

Oh, my description is so long again @_@. Sorry, I just can't manage to keep it short. Imagine how doomed I feel on Twitter :P

So I hope you like it! If you don't, please look into the spiral for a couple of minutes and repeat "I love ALL of Calypso's records" a few times :D. Lol, I'm kidding of course :P.

I'm trying to get better at using colour, so I decided to colourize this vacation sketch. I sampled the colour scheme from wirrow's piece resourced below.

i made this after seeing paperlillies doodles to the creation myth.  so here is version 2

so i read the first part of a new hevn, such a beautiful story.. so i had to stop reading and draw and this is what happened..

i loved the part were henv sung itself a boat and solemnly set sail so in this drawing i pencil drew lines to show sound coming from her mouth which i imagine was making the boat move a long..

i also found the many moons alone and growing numb really moving so i added them in a melancholy way as if they are looking down, i guess watching hevn sing x

I had this idea of Hevn and Urth being in a Yin Yang circle ever since I saw wirrow's picture and I was really inspired by paperlillies' sketches.  If I could animate this to go round and have the colors flare, I would.
